Well shucks, I'd typed up a lot of interesting liner notes from the 12" insert, but then read in the review "help" section that it isn't allowed. Doing so would have helped anyone wanting to purchase this album have a better idea of what to expect, as the sound of Current 93 is always in flux, sometimes leaving some of us initially disappointed that the new record doesn't sound more like the previous record (or some record from 15 years ago)... until the new record becomes the new favorite for the patient and attentive listener. So, starting again... this is an atmospheric record, a ghost record, a night record, released at (almost) the same time as a print anthology of haunted literature compiled by Tibet and published by Strange Attractor Press with the same title. The white on black art adorning the gatefold jacket, covering all four panels without a barcode, or even a word, except on the spine, is hauntingly beautiful and frightening, and is apparently meant as an illustration for one of the pieces included in the print anthology. If you are someone who Sees and appreciates the Current in all of its waves to date, you'll want this, and won't be disappointed. As this Current is mainly Tibet and Liles, with help and comments along the way from Ossian Brown (Cyclobe), any who know these names can imagine something close to what might be brewed up and offered here. It might also help to know that it is meant to be played loudly, at night, in the dark.

This album is more like the "I Have a Special Plan for This World" EP than like either the "Faust" or "In a Foreign town, in a Foreign Land" albums, which were, per the notes, meant to be listened to while reading the related texts by Count Stenbock and Ligotti, respectively. This and Special Plan both have the spoken words going on, which grabs and holds ones attention, and would distract me from reading. That the album and the anthology (which is wonderful) are related is obvious. The liner notes don't instruct the listener to listen while reading, only to play loud, at night, in the dark. Moons at Your Door works as a stand-alone, and for that matter, so do Faust and In a Foreign Town..., though these two consist of atmospheres only, with only faint whispers, deep growls, or occasional voices coming briefly into focus and fading away again, and are made to accompany the reading.

I was under the impression this recording was mean to be played as background music while reading the anthology book: The Moons At Your Door, short stories curated by David Tibet?
